Benco’s PPE Guidence
The proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is an effective line of defense against the spread of COVID-19.
Here, Benco’s Residential Director, Laura Lonski, reviews expectations for correct use of different styles of PPE.
Benco has a number of trainings that all employees are required to be certified in. Benco training classes are solely for new and current Benco employees and are not offered to the general public.
Employees may sign themselves up using the Therap program, stopping in at the Benco administrative office, or calling the office at 541-753-5040.
Each employee is also required to have a total of 12 inservice training hours every year.
Benco requires and offers all of the following training classes:
PreService
This is an orientation to Benco where the new employee will tour the office, meet administrative staff, and meet their immediate supervisor. Hiring paperwork will be completed, as well as an introduction to Benco’s Policies & Procedures.
Length of training: up to 4 hours.
Blood-Borne Pathogens
This training teaches employees about blood-borne pathogens and personal protective equipment. This certification is good for one year. All employees must be certified before training or working at the programs. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire.
Length of training: 3 hours.
Mandatory Abuse Reporting
This training teaches employees about how to recognize and report abuse and to be an advocate for people with disabilities. This certification is good for one year. All employees must be certified before training or working at the programs. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire.
Length of training: 1 hour.
CPR
This class is taught by the Benco trainer who is certified through the American Heart Association. All employees must be certified in CPR before working unassisted. This certification is good for two years. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire.
Length of training: 2 hours.
First Aid
This class is taught by the Benco trainer who is certified through the American Heart Association. All employees must be certified in First Aid before working unassisted. This certification is good for two years. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire.
Length of training: 2 hours.
Oregon Intervention System (OIS)
This is a 2-day workshop that focuses on positive behavior supports and understanding within their life. This workshop teaches proactive strategies and how to recognize and respond to challenging behaviors in a way to keep everyone safe. Employees learn reasonable response and how to properly use Protective Physical Interventions.
Length of training: 16 hours.
